On The Way Cafe ( Breakfast ) ****

Located at 34 Ridgeland Terrace in Rye N.Y. I was looking for a nice place to have breakfast on Fathers Day with my wife and read about this place in Westchester Magazine .We decided to try it.When we arrived that morning it was crowded with approximately 20 people waiting to be seated. We waited 1/2 hr for a seat. The restaurant holds about 50 people. The staff is friendly and the place is neat and clean. The tables have white table cloths, but they are covered with brown paper so the children can keep busy drawing or writing on them.I had their cake like blueberry pancakes that melted in my mouth. My wife had the Frittata that was also very good. The prices are a little expensive and it takes awhile to get your food, but the quality and presentation make it worth the trip.I did however find the patrons to be rude and inconsiderate.Customers think nothing about sitting and talking 20-30 minutes after they have finished eating even though other customers are waiting to be seated.I also noticed several parents seem to have problems disciplining their children as some were banging on the outside of the window.picking the flowers and pouring drinks on the floor.I even encountered a middle age couple that raced in front of me to steal the parking space I was entering. The restaurant gets 4 stars the patrons get 1

Spaccarelli's Ristorante ***

Spaccarellis is located at 238 Saw Mill River Road ( Route 100 ) in Millwood N.Y. An upscale Italian restaurant clean with a nice atmosphere.Food is good not great.I guess I expected alot more for the price we paid. The staff and waiter were not very friendly and they were very rude to a handicapped gentleman sitting near us.They had much better service at their old location years ago just around the corner from where they are now.I would have given them 5 stars back then.I guess this will be my last visit to this place

Five Guys Burgers and Fries -Pelham Manor *

Hmmmm. A little trouble starting this review off so might as well start it how it happened...

My Wife and I were Hanging out with my Brother and we were all hungry so we all agreed on Wendys.
We got to Wendys in Pelham/Bronx and waited at drive-thru for 15 min only to find out credit card machine was broke and all we had was plastic.

I heard so much about this Five Guys Burgers and Fries and how good the food is and so on and so forth. Of course we decided to go there being it was so close and we heard all the raving and ranting......

BIG MISTAKE!

We get on line and ordered 2 bacon cheeseburgers and one regular cheeseburger medium rare and 2 orders of fries. The man behind the register says "no" , Excuse me I said in a polite but inquisitive manor. Then he informs me that I can not "Have it my way". You take it how they make it , all well done with no exceptions. Fine if the food is that good I haven't a problem. They give us a number and we go to the second line , The waiting line and waited about 25 minutes with no exaggeration. we take the food home I try a fry , Disgusting tasteless burned potato. Then the burgers , I was starving. The burger was Bland, Dry and tasted like any burger you have at a friends BBQ or your own BBQ but worse. In-fact my Wife spit it out then threw it in the trash , I ate it because I was famished and My brother ate it while complaining the whole time. Oh yeah and I forgot to mention they forgot to put cheese on my burger!

all in all I give Five Guys 1 star even though they deserve 0!

Spadaro's Restaurant ***

Spadaro's is located 211 Main Street in New Rochelle N.Y. The restaurant is small with only about 10 tables and fills up quick so I suggest reservations. Our first visit was about 5 months ago with a follow up a couple of weeks ago. The first time we came, we asked the waitress for suggestions and we were told we had to try the anti-pasta. A great suggestion. They brought 2-3 small plates at a time until there was no room left on our table. The anti pasta consisted of a fantastic array fresh and homemade ingredients and included fresh mozzarella, fresh asparagus, mussels, toasted and seasoned italian bread and much more. There are no menus but still a wide variety that your waiter will assist you with. They even serve half orders of pasta. We shared 2 different pastas that definitely tasted like authentic Italian dishes. The atmosphere and service was friendly and the dress casual. The only thing it seems this restaurant lacks is consistency which is unfortunate. On our follow up visit the service was nothing like our original visit and the food came out a little cold and not as tasty as the first time. The lack of taste was probably contributed by the plates not being served at the right temperature.Based on the first visit i would have given it 4 stars.I had to give it 3 stars because of the inconsistency.

TASTE OF PORT CHESTER 2011 ****

This is a special interest column covering the Taste Of Port Chester event that took place on June 5th 2011.This event was organized on behalf of the Tamarack Tower Foundation featuring food samples from approximately 30 restaurants in Port Chester N.Y. The money paid to attend this event is used by the foundation to support continued excellence of the Port Chester public schools. You can tour the participating restaurants by foot or by bus.The restaurants involved have balloons hanging outside the entrance. The restaurants benefit from the promotion by attracting new patrons who are interested in finding new dining destinations and will also be selling beverages which are not included. I was told that approx. 700 people attended this event. This was their first attempt at this and was not without flaws. it gave EatWestchester the opportunity to judge a dozen or more establishments in one day.The review is limited and is also only a sample of the food and service.

I would like to start off by mentioning several restaurants did not have their act together and opened later than the scheduled start time of 11 am without posting this information. The Copacabana was 2 hours late! The Willett House cancelled at the last minute which seemed to upset many people, some saying they paid for this tour expecting to try The Willett House & they now have a negative opinion towards the restaurant. We were also told that the Euro Asian Bistro was confused and had nothing to offer. The tour group included Patrons, potential new Customers, Food Critics and local News Reporters and of course us at EatWestchester.com.  The places that did not present themselves properly will suffer from the bad publicity and reviews that followed. I would like to Thank those who did participate and some did an outstanding job to say the least.

Here are some highlights and downfalls. We started the tour at The Buffalo Wild Wing Grill. We were greeted by a friendly staff, were seated at a table and brought trays of 3 different kinds of wings and free soft drinks. We could of had as many wings as we would have wanted and the wings were excellent. Next was Applebees and we were a little disappointed whenThey brought out bland vegetable rolls. Panera's was next and they served a great new summer salad and tuna salad with bread. We ate at tables set up outside. At Chavin which serves Peruvian Cuisine we sampled a very bland & tasteless rice dish and a chicken dish and We weren't even told the names of the dishes. We served Ourselves and had no place to sit. Several people told us they are usually better but were probably un prepared. The Copacabana opened late and had a buffet set up on the back deck. The food was good but we never got to see inside or meet anyone from the restaurant. Patricias was closed when we were there. Cousin Frankies USA Grill served pre-made breakfast sandwiches and pancakes. We passed on breakfast. Q BBQ served great pulled pork sliders and were very pleasantMaryanns seemed to be a big hit and was packed with tour people. They served a buffet with at least 6 different items and all you can eat .Tandoori out did themselves and had a huge buffet with at least 2 dozen choices. The  Tikka Masala Was fantastic! Nessa had only french toast. It was good but not much of a variety. Nessa also had a problem with a very rude member of their staff, but management quickly corrected the problem . Acuario was also excellent with Paella and chicken lo mein. Frankie and Louie's had a buffet set up outside with a chicken dish and penne alla vodka and both were very good. Sonora's has a nice ambiance but only offered cerviche .This did not allow us an opportunity to try any of their other dishes they are noted for. Bar Taco did a fantastic job of renovating what used to be Ebb Tide. The indoor/outdoor layout is very comfortable and cozy, but they also only served cerviche and we saw so many other interesting dishes we would have liked to try. Tarry Market also had some meat and cheese samples .

We are sorry we could not report on more but we had to pass several places that were not open yet and some were closing at the 3 pm deadline and we arrived too late. We had a lot of fun and hope they extend the hours next year. I am sure the success of this tour will attract many more next year and hopefully not as many set backs.
